LIVSLUST-DZIVESPRIEKS GIVES ORPHANS AND OTHER EXPOSED YOUNGSTERS IN LATVIA A CHANCE

The Livslust Foundation (Swedish for "Joy for life") is an independent private organisation. We have built up and run a unique vocational school in Latvia for boys and girls who are at the risk of ending up as social outcasts. The goal is to give our students, with their unfortunate start in life, an opportunity to become integrated in society. Most of the students live at the school during their studies. A few, from socially deprived families in the neighbourhood, continue to live at home, but participate in the school's activities. In the safe environment of the school each and every one can discover their own talents and develop interests of their own.

For many of our students, perhaps there would not have been any other way out but to turn to crime and prostitution as a means of supporting themselves. Knowing this, we are very happy to see them succeed as they head out in life after graduation. Most of them (85%) are able to get a job and to support themselves. Some choose to continue studying with financial support from Livslust's scholarship funds. Many of them now have their own families and they can provide their children with the security and the support that they themselves never had. We also follow up on the students after they have left the school, which gives us unique opportunities to know how things turn out for them.

Please read more about our work and about what you can do to help.
