ACTIVE LEISURE TIME

Sports
We find it important that the students may try out various sporting activities. The basketball court with a tarmac surface is frequently used during summer. In the winter, we put up a detachable ice rink on the court so we can play ice hockey. Next to the court, there is a beach volley ball field and a grass field for playing football. The gravel roads in this part of the country are excellent for jogging and cycling. The aerobics sessions both indoors and outdoors, mostly interest the girls. During the winter, we go to public swimming pools, and sometimes we rent a gymnasium at the village school. Several times a year, we invite children and young people from other schools and orphanages to take part in various sporting competitions - always conducted in a friendly atmosphere.

Culture
Both boys and girls participate in courses on guitar playing and choir singing. The Livslust drama class sets up their own plays, which they perform for their friends at Livslust-Dzivesprieks as well as in other schools and orphanages. Very often the theme is on some form of drug abuse, which is a good way of spreading information about this. The students are also able to choose between drawing, painting and flower arrangement. A couple of times every year they get to go to concerts or to the theatre.

Nature
Several times a year we arrange excursions to different parts of Latvia in order for the students to familiarize themselves with their own country and simply to enjoy the beautiful scenery. During the summer time we go on camping trips, canoeing along the beautiful river Abaya, or travelling to one of Latvia's famous sandy beaches.
